16×D Deep Hole Solid Carbide Drill
Developed for CNC deep-hole drilling where extended reach, chip evacuation and coolant delivery are critical. This 16×D carbide drill is offered in both internal-coolant and external-coolant configurations, allowing the tool to be matched to different machines and drilling conditions.
Key Features
- 16×D deep-hole capability: designed for holes with a nominal depth up to approximately sixteen times the drill diameter, subject to machine rigidity and cutting conditions.
- Two coolant configurations: choose internal coolant for through-tool coolant delivery or external coolant for machines and setups using conventional coolant supply.
- Solid carbide construction: provides rigidity for long-reach precision drilling.
- Long-reach geometry: designed for deeper holes where standard-length drills cannot reach.
Internal vs. External Coolant
Internal Cooling: coolant passes through the drill and is delivered closer to the cutting zone. This configuration is generally preferred for demanding deep-hole applications because it supports chip evacuation and temperature control.
External Cooling: coolant is supplied from outside the tool. Select this version when your machine does not support through-tool coolant or when the application and drilling conditions allow external coolant delivery.
Typical Applications
- Deep-hole drilling on CNC machining centers
- Long-reach hole making in precision components
- Production machining requiring a 16×D drill length
- Applications where coolant configuration must match machine capability
Selection Guide
Variants are identified by coolant type and dimensional format. Select the correct cutting diameter, shank size, flute or working length, overall length and coolant configuration for your machine and required hole depth.
Machining Notes
Deep-hole drilling is sensitive to machine rigidity, runout, toolholding, coolant supply and workpiece material. Confirm coolant flow before drilling. For demanding applications, use an appropriate pilot or entry strategy when required by the process, and avoid interrupting coolant supply during deep-hole machining.
